Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / my Update > How 0.9T-5 sounds

We here at the annual CUE file users convention in Anchorage Alaska all agree it's great to get the added cue file support for 0.9T-5. I like all the new features like wallpaper for the album cover and info. The SQ has been superb! -less distortion rich bodies delineated-... too, because I've spent each evening for a while listening to various Q1 settings. Q1 18 is lining up well with my dac right now; If you'd asked me yesterday I would have said 17... but really a big, better (i think at the moment hehe) change from the 14 I'd been leaving it at... I'm by no means done experimenting with Q1. 19 & 20 I've listened but I think phase something gong on/ If I understand what Peter wrote at one point was that Q1 settings would be different for everyone depending on their setup/dac... so I suggest experimenting a bit people, pick a number and give it a go for a day or two. For me, I find myself listening for two things distortion changes and bass changes (phase stuff?) when picking Q1 settings. I've been busy with holiday trips and leaving my wallet at relatives over the last couple weeks heh, but the listening I've gotten in during the last few days has really sounded good with 9t5. I have not felt the need to compare with older versions.... though I have several sitting on the machine heh.

Just loaded up 9T-4 and all is working so far error free. Thanks I like being able to turn off/on desktop icons from XXHE. I like the idea of cd/artist/song info around cover pic. I wish it would display song titles for cue files. I wish it didn't have to go to a solid color wallpaper, but instead use existing wallpaper and insert the cover/info?

Hi Dave, Could you be a tad more clear please ? Right now you have two things in XXHE that you label Library; the Button on the left side of the player, and the Tab across the top. Doesn't the Tab have more to do with Gallery functions, while the Button calls up an explorer type window where you pick your wav files. If that's not clear, don't worry about it. I was just a bit confused with this thread and peps using the term Library and not knowing whether they referred to the button or the tab. This is certainly not as important as, say, adding cue file selection using the Gallery hehe opps (pest move).

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: What about two harddrives (and another sorting problem)
|

Also it would be nice that you can show my collection from two hard drives. Now its only possible to ad one hard drive. Gerard, note that theoretically you can do this now (0.9n) by means of creating a "main" Galery "All music", under which the data from both disks are created (2 minutes work I think). Also note that you can "copy" again from a Galery to another Galery, so that this "All music" Galery really can serve you here. Whether this is awkwardish for a solution I don't know. But anyway please note that another "more real" solution will give me sorting problems, hence that takes time to develop, and it can't have priority IMHO. Peter Hmm, Funny I missed all this. Finally getting a handle on Galleries and thought I'd post. I have my music, for now on multiple HDDs, and thought I could only look at one HDD at a time. With Galleries, I found out only last night (yes, even after all I've done with galleries P), that I can add/save all my music to a single Gallery and when I load that gallery under the Library tab I see all my music and XXHE finds it on whatever HDD it is stored on. Previously I thought it could only see one HDD at a time. I should have figured this out sooner. I finally thought about it, "Now, why did PeterSt make a root dir and a gallery dir search"? doh

Sounds good Peter. Here's how I do my backups though; everything by "hand"/manually. At the moment, I have all my music on 320GB external HDDs and each one is backed up by 320GB removable sata internal HDD. I've made it a point to never ever having an external and its backup online at the same time. When I rip new CDs I send them to a third/different internal drive that is always online... I then copy it to the appropriate external HDD. After having ripped a few discs/a few days, I then make sure my externals are offline, pop in my removable backup, and move the music/picture/cue files off the third/different internal drive that is always online to the removable backup and then take it offline again. It so far seems to work. Theft and fire are about the only thing I worry about. Well, I went ahead and picked up the 2TB mentioned above here because of price. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/513062-REG/Western_Digital_WDG2T20000N_2_TB_My_Book.htmlI wish it had sata too, but oh wellz. One good thing about it was this listed at WD site: "User serviceable - Easy access allows you to open the case and replace a drive. No need to send the entire system in for service." From the looks of the enclosure I'll be able to open it up easy and get to the drives... which I'm betting are two 1TB sata drives anyway. If I ever do have to do a huge backup (can't imagine why...) maybe I can pop out the drives and hook em up to sata hehe. As far as XXHe and speed of cue/wav files being read, I think I'm ok there too. CUE file Question. When I go through the huge step by step arduous process of opening up explorer and finding my music and cumbersomely dragging my single album wav file kicking and screaming onto XXHE so it can read the cue file and see song titles, (which disappear immediately after pushing play in unattended because SQ is utmost), *does my whole big wav title get read? or, when using cue files, do you then only read (put into memory) individual songs? OR How is playing/loading a single WAV from "library" read differently (if it is) then playing/loading a WAV/CUE file from explorer? curiosity kills this cat

Hi Gerard, I have written about this elsewhere on this site. A little while ago (around about version d) XXHighend caught up and passed the SQ of my Linn Sondek, Ittok, EAR 834P phono etc. The record deck is now sold and my record collection goes next Wednesday. There is no going back and indeed no need to . Your selling your record collection? Did you archive it? I just have so much on LP that I'm not going to replace on CD... even though I don't have a turntable up anymore/yet, I'm holding onto the albums... if only for the covers. Make sure to check on ebay or the like what they are really worth. I thought I'd sold a couple CDs because I was trying to find their cover art to scan... fortunantely I hadn't yet because I found out they were going for far more than I'd expect them to go. When things go outta print, I guess collectors go mad.

This would be nice to have with unattended mode... but would this cancel out unattended mode? Once unattended mode bacame the norm, I thought this would be nice to have. Only reason I didn't ask for this is because I didn't want you to try to implement it during unattended and then have SQ messed with. SQ first, damn the convenience,,, but if it works and SQ doesn't suffer.....
Very busy right now, so I haven't done anything but causal following asleep listening; come mid December I'll have lots of time to hehe complain if things go wrong.

Maybe it is more easy to understand it like this : In that particular version of XXHighEnd the frequency output (as for the net result in the room) shifted to the low side. In 0.9s-1 it is shifted in the other direction - to the highs. This is, btw, a typical signature of jitter ... or the bass is good, or the treble is good. Not both. In tis case (0.9s-1) however something else happened; where the highs contain a fair (too musch) amount of jitter playing with Appointment Scheme-1, Scheme-3 just makes that good, pertaining the other goodies (I did not try "No Appointment" but my feeling says it's rather the same as Scheme-3). Well, IMO of course. hmm I hope no appointment is close to scheme 3, but could you give it a try and tell us single core peps what we might be missing... or maybe no appointment might ??? trying to make you curious and, well I need a push to start thinking about building that new computer.... or finding a laptop that will do it well.
