91  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: PeterSt is in shape - Audio Revolution on: March 03, 2012, 03:39:46 pm
Is this something we will set ourselves with more "dials" or an on/off toggle? or will this just be applied to the new player with no switches?
92  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: USB CABLE AGAIN on: February 04, 2012, 06:15:15 am
I'm a little drunk...
so I hope this doesn't sound abrasive
but I kinda stopped reading about here:
"we did compare the iTunes-purchased 256kbps (VBR) MC version of arecent album (The Avett Brothers' 'I And Love And You') with the ripped CD version in ALAC, then the same converted to 256kbps (VBR) MC."
anyway... it all depends here on whether different usb cables applies to Peter's creation... and that won't be answered in this article.
I had a Stello 100 that definitely sounded best with a cable i was smitten with (a no name didn't cost anything usb cable)... so I know there can be differences... especially the usb port you choose to use... there is one best one on your computer is what I learned.

I haven't needed one of these tablet things yet... but I'm eyeing this ... comes out in spring.

I probably wouldn't be using it for XXHE because of the wifi/bluetooth ... connection needed, and the fact that I kill all services via peter's button.

Two bit-identical files should sound identical when played back through XX. If they don't, then the only thing I can think of is that their location on the hard-drive matters.
Mani.

This is a conclusion I came up with awhile ago also.  I'm glad that I have xxhe rip the files again to the main drive... somewhat consistent? but who knows... I've stopped listening too closely now that I've reached the ripe ol age of 52.  I never compared ripping programs, but I'm glad I ripped the majority of my music using a plextor drive and their software.  Now I use EAC with what I hope are good settings... also.... and I always felt it mattered... I rip the whole album to a single wav/cue file... ya, I still think it matters... even though peter splits em hehe as he rerips em to the C: drive.  who knows... someones a little crazy

Does anyone know of an easy way to switch a PC on remotely or would I have to physically go down to my basement whenever I want to do this?
In the BIOS there is normaly an option which is called "wake on keyboard". This should start your pc without going down to the pc...
Greetings
Adrian

This is what I do too.  I have a bios setting that lets me start the computer (in a closet in an adjacent room) with either a keyboard press or mouse click.

How about this drive for fast ... I remember having one a few years back before i tried the ssd route... but I don't remember  how noisy it is.

97  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Request for "reverse right & left speakers" on: September 18, 2011, 01:01:46 am
Most easy thing. But never did it because I never saw the use of it.

Not that I couldn't use it myself at sometimes switching the interlinks abusively ...

Happy

For some of those jazz recordings that are always putting instruments in one speaker or the other, thought it might be interesting to see how balanced the room/speakers are and to be able to hear the instruments on a different side/ear.
98  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Request for "reverse right & left speakers" on: September 18, 2011, 12:08:54 am
Hi Peter
Thought it would be nice to be able to have a reverse right and left speakers button in xxhe ...
99  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Z0.9-6 on: September 17, 2011, 11:25:37 pm
Been listening to the new zo.9-6 and am floored again by XXHE.  The last version I was using before 9-6 was 9z-52, with Win7 sp1 and all security updates installed, I wasn't sure it was as good as the way previous version of xxhe I used with my Vista install.

But but xxhe zo9-6 is excelente! (along with the fact I took off sp1 & all updates... except for 2 windows security updates that win7 doesn't seem to want to let go of???_) The balance of the system tonally by bringing back fantastic drums and the focus & clarity of everything while bringing a huge soundstage front to rear along with a reduction in unwanted distortion...  it all sounds awesome to me.  I'm trying to use all the "best" settings.

101  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Unattended Play on: September 04, 2011, 03:18:51 am
Unattended is the button directly below the play button on the face of the GUI; it has the "X" in a box. If you have "Tool Tips" checked in the settings, you'll get an explanation of each button by hovering the mouse pointer over it.

Thank you and exactly right.
Been learning bout settings and no serious listening yet ... but woohoo... good to begin being back.  Will have to update my forum sig settings soon.
102  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Unattended Play on: September 03, 2011, 10:02:51 pm
I don't see an Unattended Play button?... but I'm assuming (unless I just don't see the button somewhere) that selecting the buttons:

Stop Desktop Services
Stop Remaining Services

should do the trick and send everything into Unattended Playing mode and stop services....
but nothing happens.  Player/music is playing but not going into unattended or shutting down services.

What am I missing?
103  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: The W7 black hole on: September 03, 2011, 08:31:35 am
Malwarebytes is great when I'm on the internet but I have a whole routine of shutting lots of stuff down, including malwarebytes, when listening to music...I start with the bios shutting down network/usb (i even remove cables not being used in case there's some passive electrical influence) ... and then move to shutting down software and rebooting half a dozen times. geez don't you know me by now?
104  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: The W7 black hole on: September 03, 2011, 07:48:12 am
I   I

I

I hate you guys .....

haha I just installed win 7 64 and shoulda known not to update, but somehow I thought I read that latest xxhe is/was moving toward win not having an influence.

I'm not even going to listen I'm just going to start uninstallin.
but what about all those "security updates"  I generally am not connected to the internet and shut off network/malwarebytes when not connected, but there are times I hook up to the internet.  Should Malwarebytes be sufficient to save me from malware/viruses? or no se?
