I think I just heard Vista say "Dave" to me... and began singing "Daisy Daisy"... ima name my version Hal
anywayz, dedicated transport here, so if it shuts everything down but the essentials to run XXHE we're in business.
482  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / CUE file bugs on: November 23, 2007, 08:19:50 pm
My CUE files are made using EAC.  When using cue files a lot of times the song titles are screwed up... letters dropped,,,It happens to song titles where inexplicably EAC has not put quotation marks around them (most songs titles when you open/edit a cue file will be in quotes and therefore read correctly; if they aren't in " " when you open a cue file to read/edit it the song title won't look right in XXHE).  It happens often enough that I'd like to not have to go back and add quotes manually... f**bar is able to read them correctly, so maybe it can be worked out in XXHE easily enough, without messing up SQ! hehe

Just to let you know.  Still have to select cue files from starting explorer... All of us thousands of users of CUE files would really like to select cue files using "Library Button" and Library Tab (clicking album cover plays the cue/wav file).

thanks,
The CUE File Brigade

And ... since the first delete already isn't necessary for anything (IMO), any virtual second is too virtual to cause problems.

When you deside not to play all the tracks of the playlist and you want to play something else then I need to use the Delete button. Otherwise the old tracklist remains and other tracks are added on the same list.

Ok, I get something like this too.  It's when I use the "Library" Tab and select albums by their cover picture.  If I do it this way just pushing clear gets rid of the wav in playlist, but when I pick another album cover under "Library" Tab the new wav appears along with the previous wav played. (I've only played unattended mode).  When picking another album I have to push clear and then delete (it then asks me if I want to delete current playlist and i choose yes).  Then I can pick another album cover and it is the only one in playlist.
If I use the "Library Button" or use explorer to select a new wav, I just have to push clear to get rid of old wav.   Anyway it pretty much goes along with what johanZ has said.

485  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: My own settings for 0.9s on: November 22, 2007, 07:41:14 pm
Hiyall, long time no see.

Well, been busy with daughter & work & putting together useless album art (grr better sounding unattended mode grr).  But after about 5 hours of listening to 0.9S-1 I'm convinced this is the best sounding player for me yet... which I'm always fairly amazed at having raved in the past about D & PD.  For me, my soundstage took leaps to the sides and front and back (much more holographic), great focus With meat on the bones music, extended highs/air, and the great bass I loved in D (I love my subwoofers) hitting me just right.  Thanksgiving here and no traveling to do so I'll have time to listen.  And this great sound comes from my lowly laptop single core listed below... :/ , so what am I missing by not having a speedier computer with multi core cpu? ... it tugs, but I'm holding off on the upgrades until ver 1.0 or XXHE makes me.  I've not varied from PeterSt settings (no time), except for the processor core appointments, which I guess are useless to me.  I've been playing unattended from the get-go, I should try it without,,,, so I can look at my album cover haha.
[I think I have that bug that's reported about playlist not deleting with clear... I'll post in that thread after trying stuff.]

Ok, Just got around to dling S-1.  I didn't listen to S because I've been busy with work/family, and stuck in another room dling/scanning album art for my collection, (it takes so long to do and I start getting compulsive (back, inside, cd pictures), and I still have a third of my collection to go :/ ... but I digress). hehe I find it Highly Ironic, because I never cared to see album art on my computer, but thought I'd finally put that together ... AND NOW, there's unattended mode??? hehe is this some kinda cruel joke hehe,,, anyway, player is playing and system is warming,,, I'll listen finally in about an hour...after I find this frigin album cover by Funeral Party, a cd i ripped then sold :/ hehe

488  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Question about direct I2S DACs on: November 18, 2007, 04:06:08 am
I would like to hear people's/PeterSt thoughts on the USB-dacs that avoid S/PDIF conversion and use the "more direct" I2S path.  I know Wavelength Audio & Emirical Audio do this... does Berts' Twin+ usb dac take this route? is there any reason why this wouldn't be better than converting to S/PDIF?  I'd like to build a new computer and buy a dac probably around the time PeterSt puts out XXHE 1.0.

491  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Is my system up to it? on: November 15, 2007, 02:51:42 am
When I was first evaluating XXHE I had only 512K of ram, but that was with XP.  When I moved to Vista Home Premium I put in two GB of ram at the same time...

I guess I'm posting wanting to say hi to twystd and say something about file size... doesn't the size of your wav files determine how little ram you can get away with?  I thought I decided to up my ram not only because of Vista but because I ripped my CDs to a single large wav file plus cue file.  But if you've ripped your CDs to multi small wav files you might get away with lesser amounts of ram???  Anyway, something in the back of my mind still is convinced about having one large wav file as opposed to breaking things down... hheheh
492  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Harddisk noise on: November 11, 2007, 10:41:37 pm
I think this is an important factor to state again.  If you're using a usb-dac, then you should connect your external hdd via firewire.  If you're using a firewire dac, then connect your external hdd via usb.  If I don't have that right peter correct me.
493  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9q ... no .... on: November 11, 2007, 11:21:38 am
Well, I tried to evaluate tonight.  But my heart wasn't really into it.  I did a 45 min of going from Q to PD to M-1 to D and back through again listening mostly to  Frank Sinatra Nice N Easy (nice thumb snaps) and rock Miracle Fortress...but just didn't settle into it.  I'm pretty sure I felt Q was more strident/ragged on the top compared to the others and I think I relaxed more with PD (which sounds like D with the windows cleaned  hehe)... I didn't spend long on M-1, but should, cause I remember a few nights with it sounding very good.  My head? my system, just didn't listen well tonight.  I also wonder about shutting off/starting up/switching players... without a reboot between and how that might all affect the XXHE version following it... hmm, I only have a single core cpu in the laptop so I've left that box unchecked, (but did Peter hint that versions before Q may still be active?)  Fell asleep listening to Kristin Hersh (a limited copy live album she did released with a Throwing Muses CD...great stuff) using PD... woke up to post here in my live journal, ha. night all 2am here.
494  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9q ... no .... on: November 10, 2007, 03:28:12 am
Well that was quick.  I haven't even dled this one yet.  I will later tonight and hope to give it a listen against .9PD.  I will try out the other features though... could make things a lot easier!
495  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / 0.9pd on: November 06, 2007, 04:31:26 am
Yes I do enjoy this one... for the two days I've used it for music, hehe, I haven't felt a need to go back to M-1 or even load .9d up again heh...

I love this humour
